Mindfulness

Thank you for joining me on my journey exploring relaxation and wellness. Today I am focusing on mindfulness. We all experience chaos in our lives. How can chaos be managed rather than it managing us? I was recently at a workshop about mindfulness. What I learned is that being mindful is awareness of your surroundings, live in the moment. Observe then act on what is most important for that situation – not simply react with a knee jerk response. I liken it to being the calm eye in a hurricane.

Incorporate mindful practices into your daily routine – appreciate the sun shining, listen to the birds chirping, a baby gurgling – and acknowledge how it makes you feel. Be aware of the red lights you pass through, don’t mindlessly drive through. If you are feeling a little overwhelmed take a few minutes to pay attention to your breathing. Concentrate on feeling and listening as you inhale and exhale through your nostrils. Breathe deeply and slowly. When your attention wanders, gently return your focus to your breathing.  This simple breathing exercise can have a focusing, calming, and vitalizing effect for your whole mind and body.

Additionally, I would also like to share with you a video I came across on mindfulness.com from Mary J. Lore who is the founder and CEO of Managing Thought, LLC.

Take time to smell the roses!

What a great morning!

I woke up today wondering, “What will I post on my new blog?”  It came to me then, share how I want to start my days with positive affirmations.  Positive affirmations help you stay focused on your dream, goal, or behavior you want to conquer.  Negative thoughts will present themselves, acknowledge them and discard, then focus again on your positive affirmation.  What do you want to achieve — be successful, improve or maintain relationships, increase confidence, be healthy?  Write it down on a note card, display on your computer monitor, or record it if you are able to play it back for yourself.  The point is to constantly refer to it throughout your day.  Begin your affirmations with I am, I feel, I deserve, I have.  Beginning in this manner makes them positive and more powerful.

Some examples are:

  • I am deserving of all the good things in my life.
  •  I am attracting powerfully positive and healthy people into my life.
  • I am calm and relaxed in every situation.
  • I am successful in whatever I do.
  • Success is flowing now into my life.
  • I am now earning a lot of money.
  • I behave in ways that promote my health more every day.

Below is a YouTube video I found by Robyn Nola and Karen Drucker.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
