Thank you for joining me on my journey exploring relaxation and wellness. Today I am focusing on mindfulness. We all experience chaos in our lives. How can chaos be managed rather than it managing us? I was recently at a workshop about mindfulness. What I learned is that being mindful is awareness of your surroundings, live in the moment. Observe then act on what is most important for that situation – not simply react with a knee jerk response. I liken it to being the calm eye in a hurricane.
Incorporate mindful practices into your daily routine – appreciate the sun shining, listen to the birds chirping, a baby gurgling – and acknowledge how it makes you feel. Be aware of the red lights you pass through, don’t mindlessly drive through. If you are feeling a little overwhelmed take a few minutes to pay attention to your breathing. Concentrate on feeling and listening as you inhale and exhale through your nostrils. Breathe deeply and slowly. When your attention wanders, gently return your focus to your breathing. This simple breathing exercise can have a focusing, calming, and vitalizing effect for your whole mind and body.
